Ashburton apprentice Daniel Stackhouse bounced back from a fall at Trentham on Saturday to ride three winners at Washdyke yesterday.
Stackhouse, who required a medical clearance before he rode yesterday, was unseated when Yourtheman slipped and fell near the 2000m in the Wellington Steeplechase. He was taken to hospital.
"I had pain in my right side and went to hospital for an x-ray but I was cleared after the doctor examined me," Stackhouse said.
"I think I was badly winded. The horse was lying on top of me when the rein was caught."
Stackhouse won on Ishiabeel (Winter Cup Trial), Midllans and Aronsay yesterday.
He stuck to the inside rail with Ishiabeel and Midllans on a slow track.
Ishiabeel won the Winter Cup Trial (1600m) by 7 lengths. The rising 4-year-old mare is now exempt from the ballot for the $100,000 Winter Cup (1600m) at Riccarton on Saturday week, which, trainer Terri Rae confirmed, would be her next race.
However, history may be against her, the last mare of her age to salute being Kalott in 1967.
Stackhouse, who rode Ishiabeel half a kilogram over at 53.5kg yesterday, is first in line for the mount. It was the fourth win in nine starts for Ishiabeel, owned by Bradbury Bloodstock.
"She has taken a while to mature and she likes to be ridden cold," Rae said.
Rae has another Winter Cup entry in Don't Say Clang, who ran fourth when resuming in the Winter Cup Trial at Ashburton the previous week.
Don't Say Clang ran third to Taking The Mickey and The Twist in the Winter Cup last year. He won the Winter Cup Trials at Ashburton and Washdyke in 2008 but missed the Winter Cup that year with a stone bruise.
Don't Say Clang has a 1400m race at Oamaru on August 1 as a lead up.
Matthew Cropp, who was fined $500 at Trentham on Saturday, won the hurdles on Joint Effort yesterday. The Cambridge jockey was fined for weighing out in a modified riding vest.
Gore jumper Kidunot continued his preparation for the Grand National Steeplechase when he mastered 70kg with ease in the steeple yesterday.
