Auckland horseman Tony Herlihy is looking forward to the arrival in the north of Southland's star 2-year-old, Western Dream.
Herlihy will take over the training of Western Dream for a northern campaign after she took her unbeaten record to four when winning the $12,000 Caduceus Club of Southland Two-Year-Old Fillies' Classic at Ascot Park in Invercargill on Saturday.
"I've seen all of her races and I'm sure she'll be competitive up here," Herlihy said yesterday.
Invercargill trainer Vin Devery, who owns the daughter of Badlands Hanover and Dreamy Atom with his wife Daphne, will send Western Dream to Herlihy in a fortnight.
Western Dream is heading to Auckland for the $100,000 Sires' Stakes Fillies' Championship at Alexandra Park on May 27.
Dreamy Atom, raced by the Deverys and driven by Herlihy, won the Sires' Stakes 3-Year-Old Championship at Alexandra Park in 1995.
Second and third, respectively, behind Western Dream on Saturday were Pam Bromac and Southern Kiwi. Branxholme trainer-driver Kirk Larsen said Pam Bromac might also race in Auckland.
He had no firm plans for her but was considering a Sires' Stakes Fillies' heat at Timaru on Sunday week before the Auckland trip. The Breeders' Crown Series in Australia is another possible goal.
Southern Kiwi was to be turned out of training for three months, Myross Bush trainer Sarah Donaldson said.
Winton horseman Allan Beck drove four winners at the Northern Southland meeting, including three he trained. Beck has twice driven five winners in a day.
Members of his stable to win were Seelstars Blue Jean, Have You Seen This and Petticoat Junction.
His other success was with She's Our Lover who is prepared at Longbush by Alan Paisley.
Stable star Seelstars Blue Jean is a favourite for the $25,000 Southern Country Cups Final at Ascot Park on Saturday week.
Beck intends taking Seelstars Blue Jean to Addington for premier meetings on May 13 and 20.
