Southern Halo, the most successful sire in Argentine history, has died in his paddock at Haras La Quebrada near Buenos Aires.
The 24-year-old American-bred stallion is best known in Australia as the sire of More Than Ready, who has produced the past two Golden Slipper winners.
Southern Halo had been retired from stud duties this year.
He was Argentina's leading sire from 1994 to 2000, and in 2004 and 2007. He topped the broodmare sires' list from 2004 to 2008.
