KEY POINTS:
When 2-year-olds race at 1400m for the first time there is one thing you look for - a good barrier draw.
Six of the best chances in tomorrow's $200,000 Ford Manawatu Sires Stakes have drawn the outside six barriers.
What you almost certainly can't do is work both ends of this race and win.
Co-trainer Paul Moroney knows that and is well aware of the task facing Captain Fantastic from the No18 gate.
The only positive he sees is that many of the dangers are out there with his horse.
"There is the possibility that because some of those just inside us will be looking to get over and slot in we could well get drag across the field early. The 1400m will be our friend and the barrier draw is our enemy."
* Minstrel Court, form 1611, is drawn just inside at No 17. He is such a loping long strider that he could possibly slide forward without taking too much out of himself.
* Tavistock, form 12, No 16. His two efforts have been stylish, but both have been after sitting on the speed. If he wants to try that again he's going to have to burn fuel early.
* Il Quello Veloce, form 31623, No 15. Luckless filly that would have gone close to taking the Karaka Million with a clear passage. Makes it tough for herself by getting back early, but that will be necessary from her gate.
* All In Brawl, form 121, No 14. Beat Tavistock with a bit to spare last start.
* Vincent Mangano, form 11417, No 13. Came from near last to win the Karaka Million. Won't be quite as easy to do the same here, but he could ease back to avoid covering extra ground.
