BRISBANE - Jockey Stathi Katsidis is an unabashed fan of 3-year-old Shoot Out but he's the first to admit the gelding will need luck to win next month's Magic Millions Trophy.
Katsidis had his first race ride on Shoot Out in Saturday's $100,000 Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm and was more than impressed with his 1-length sixth behind surprise winner Dual Chamber.
But the leading hoop fears Shoot Out's immaturity and the tight turning Gold Coast track may well prove his downfall in the $1 million Magic Millions feature over 1400m on January 9.
"He's far from an ideal horse for that sort of race," Katsidis said.
"He was all over the place on Saturday and his legs were all over the place.
"I've got no doubt he's top class and he gave me the feel of a really nice horse.
"He might be the horse who storms over them in the Magic Millions but he will need a lot of luck with the way he races."
