A bet of $20 or more on two Waikato Racing Club meetings next month could win a service to champion sire Zabeel.
The Appeal of Zabeel promotion will be run in conjunction with the club's meetings at Te Rapa on February 3 and February 10.
The winner of the Appeal of Zabeel will have the choice of a free service nomination to Zabeel for an approved mare, worth $120,000, or a choice of one of two $125,000 Mercedes Benz vehicles or $100,000 cash.
The prize is being donated by leading breeders and Cambridge Stud owner Sir Patrick Hogan and Lady Hogan, and the syndicate owners of Zabeel. The promotion is being organised by the TAB, Waikato Racing Club and New Zealand Racing Industry Board.
To enter, a tote bet of $20 or more has to be placed on any race over the two Saturdays at Te Rapa.
The promotion will consist of two draws. After each race on the two Saturdays there will be a preliminary prize draw from all eligible bets worth $20 or more. The TAB computer will randomly select either a betting ticket number or account number.
Sir Patrick said the chance to win a Zabeel service simply by making a $20 bet was a fantastic opportunity.
"Every year there are more than three times the number of applications for a Zabeel service than are available," he said.
A similar promotion, involving a free service to the champion stallion, has been run by the Waikato club at their February meeting for the past two years and has been a huge success.
New Zealand trainers won nearly half the card between them in Singapore on Saturday night.
Stephen Gray, Laurie Laxon and Paddy Busuttin all won a race each on the seven-race card.
Gray, who previously trained in partnership with his father Kevin at Waverley, won the opening race with Australian-bred Kingscote.
It was Gray's second win with Kingscote since he moved to Singapore about six months ago.
Laxon won the following race with Son Of Jogger and Busuttin's win came in the sixth race with Craic Of Thunder. Each of the races the New Zealanders won carried a stake of $S45,000 ($NZ59,000).
