Favourite Sepoy produced a dominant performance to win the $3.5 million Golden Slipper at Rosehill yesterday.
The easy win in the world's richest two-year-old race on Saturday in the 1200-metre feature contrasted the pre-race drama that saw two horses, Fast And Sexy and second favourite Smart Missile, being scratched behind the barriers on veterinarian advice.
Sepoy, ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, had the race in his keeping after getting to leader Karuta Queen shortly after hitting the home straight.
The Darley-owned Elusive Quality colt hit the lead near the 200 metres and went on to defeat Mosheen with Elite Falls third.
Trainer Peter Snowden was in tears after claiming his first victory in the event.
"Everyone's got a signature race, this will be mine ... it's the best feeling of my life," Snowden said.
Meanwhile emerging stayer Cedarberg caused another upset at the Sydney Carnival to win the Group One BMW.
Cedarberg was sent out a $26 chance in the $2.25 million 2400-metre weight-for-age feature at Rosehill but overshadowed some of the country's best-credentialled stayers to sweep home along the inside and defeat Mourayan by 1 lengths.
Linton came in a neck behind his stablemate Mourayan in third place
