"It was a steadily run trial and they all seemed to hit the line.
"He's a bigger and stronger horse and I'm looking forward to seeing him back at the races in a couple of weeks."
Trainer Peter Snowden will kick off Helmet's campaign in the Run To The Rose (1200m) on August 27 when unbeaten colt Smart Missile awaits as opposition.
Helmet will progress to the Golden Rose (1400m) second-up on September 10.
McEvoy said Helmet had developed from his juvenile season, which netted four wins from five starts.
"He was always pretty natural but he's got thicker and stronger and he might improve further," the jockey said. "He's still untapped trip-wise and as we saw as a 2-year-old he was a very raw talent."
McEvoy heads to Melbourne today to ride Sepoy first-up in the Vain Stakes (1100m).
He partnered the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond winner in a pleasing gallop on Tuesday morning.
"I'm really looking forward to getting down there to ride him," he said.
"It would be nice if there was not too much rain."
The handsome chestnut has drawn barrier six in the 10-horse field.
Sepoy's main spring goal is the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day but a clash with unbeaten champion Black Caviar has not been ruled out.
"We will have to wait and see," Snowden said.
* Young jockey Tommy Berry has been waiting more than four months for the chance to get back on board his favourite filly Karuta Queen.
That wait is almost over with Berry confident the speedster can return a winner in today's Group Three San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.
"She trialled very well and seems to have come back better than last preparation, but you never know until they race again," he said.
The daughter of Not A Single Doubt has eased from A$3.20 to A$3.80 with TAB Sportsbet with talented colt Foxwedge rock solid as the A$2.30 favourite.
