Cambridge trainer Murray Baker and Auckland jockey Grant Cooksley combined to win the Group Three fillies feature at Hastings yesterday for the second time, 17 years after their first.
Cooksley got the Baker-trained Howmuchyacharging home by half a neck in the $50,000 Highview Stakes (1200m) at the Hawkes Bay meeting.
Back in 1988 he also rode the Baker-trained Kate's Myth to win the race, when it was known as the Gold Trail Stakes.
The experienced Cooksley had to call on all his skills to get Howmuchyacharging up in the last few strides and head off the pacemaking Crepe De Chine by half a neck.
There was half a length back to third-placed City Affair, with Boudi Woudi fourth.
Howmuchyacharging was kicking off her 3-year-old campaign, after finishing third behind Kindacross in the Group One Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Awapuni back in April.
Baker said the Howbaddouwantit filly will now line up in a listed fillies race over 1400m at Ellerslie on October 8.
Crepe De Chine's rider Vinny Colgan said his filly needed the run and would strip much fitter next time round.
"She just came to the end of it the last bit but it was a huge run, because she hadn't trialled or anything going into the race and can only improve from it," he said.
