KEY POINTS:
New Zealand mare Seachange ran a solid fourth in her final race in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket, England yesterday.
Heavy rain before the event did not help Seachange's chances but she battled on gamely from an outside draw.
She was handy throughout, loomed to the lead at the midpoint stage but could not match the finishing effort of the first three.
The race was won by 3-year-old filly Nahoodh, a 10/1 chance ridden by champion jockey Frankie Dettori, by three-quarters of a length from the favourite Infallible and Heaven Sent.
Seachange was beaten about three lengths into fourth.
Te Awamutu trainer Graeme Sanders confirmed that Seachange had run her last race.
"If we hadn't seen so much rain we would have been closer but we probably wouldn't have won and I'm very proud of her," he said. "She was only put in the July Cup on Friday as a precaution and will now be retired."
Seachange is to return home where she will be served by Zabeel.
Nahoodh, trained by Mark Johnson for Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, was recording her first win at group one level at only her second run for his stable.
Seachange had earlier been close up but unplaced in the Golden Jubilee Stakes.
