Well backed lightweight Say No More came with a withering run down the centre of the track to claim coveted Group one status with a win in the prestigious Harcourts Thorndon Mile at Trentham yesterday.
It was the fifth win from nine starts for the Paul Duncan trained four-year-old Pentiremare but by far the most lucrative with the $100,000 first prize dwarfing her $58,000 previous total earnings.
Indeed this was her third win in this campaign for the rapidly improving mare who has likely earned a spell ahead of a possible campaign in Queensland in the winter .
Justanexcuse, had one when the Lisa Latta trained gelding missed the jump and it was John Sargent's Sadist, who took over the running shortly as the field settled with Postman's Daughter and November Rain prominent early.
Michael Walker turned up the wick on Sadist and he was still in charge halfway down the straight.
But Say No More showed brilliant acceleration and made the most of her rider Rosie Meyers' 52kg weight to skip to the line two lengths clear of a game Postman's Daughter and another lightweight Jetset Lad.
Warm favourite Shez Sinsational was the biggest disappointment, never getting into the race and finishing a well beaten eleventh.
Earlier in the programme, Lisa Allpress just got John Sargent's Quintessential home in the Group three Tiger Prawn Desert Gold Stakes for three year old fillies, the first leg of the Pick Six.
In a tight finish over the 1600m, the Fast 'N' Famous filly won by a nose from Lisa Latta's Capital Diamond with Artistic a mere half a head away third.
Guns At Five won the third leg of the Pick 6, Six O'Clock News took out the fourth leg, while Kelly Myers' won her second of the day on L'Amour in the fifth leg.
The final leg was won by John Wheeler's The Prince.
