It will be far from the biggest price of the day, but Savapak earlier on the programme looks the goods for Te Rapa this afternoon.
The northern maiden races lately have been strong, but Race 2 today is of even strength and Savapak's debut second at Rotorua last time puts her right in the picture here. She did things wrong at Rotorua and should have learned a lot with that experience. The compact field should help as well.
With just six acceptors, Race 1 should be difficult to get some value out of and the exotics are probably the go. Nomisma (No4) did not get all the breaks at Ellerslie last time and is reasonably well placed here. She finishes her races off strongly and will be suited by the small field. Mary Quant (No3) should be ready to do something off the back of two starts this preparation. She is better than she has been showing.
Morse Code (No1) loves to lead and with early Te Rapa races often going to on-pace runners, he rates. Wills Road (No2) will be somewhere in the first four.
Clarify (No1, R3) is an interesting runner. He wilted after taking over with 550m to run in the Wellington Cup, but this is a long way from that. He has 59.5kg, but has earned it and won here with 59kg three starts back. He could take come pulling back. Vinevale (No2) could be the most difficult and Blue Lagoon (No6) is right in the party.
