Racing: Riccarton meeting off due to low entries

The Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting at Riccarton tomorrow has been cancelled because of a lack of entries.

The club yesterday reported when nominations closed at noon there were only 77 entries for an eight-race programme.

Twenty-five of them were also entered for the Timaru Racing Club's meeting at Phar Lap Raceway on Sunday.

Nominations for Timaru were to have closed yesterday but will remain open until 10am today.

Ironically the Otago meeting on June 18, for which the meetings were swapped, has been transferred from Wingatui to Oamaru because of very heavy track conditions.
