Most people feel good about honouring a promise - Tim Carter feels terrible.
The Cambridge trainer promised Vinny Colgan the continued mount on star galloper Mr Multiwin when Colgan broke his leg.
To honour that promise he has had to pull Michael Coleman from the saddle for tomorrow's $27,500 Fairview Motors Sprint at Te Rapa.
Coleman has ridden Mr Multiwin in his three most recent starts for two wins and rates him the equal of anything in New Zealand.
Coleman will instead ride Golden Harvest, who looks the hardest for Mr Multiwin to beat.
Colgan was hoping for a decent ride to restart his career and finds himself on the country's star.
"I made a commitment to Vinny when he won two races on the horse and I feel obligated to keep that promise," said Tim Carter. "But it's never easy taking off a winning jockey and I feel really bad about it. Mickey's been very good about it though and he seems happy enough.
"Every jockey that's been on the horse since Vinny has understood that they were only filling in."
Mr Multiwin has won six of his seven starts since returning from Hong Kong and a horrific leg injury. He overcame difficulties to win at Te Rapa three weeks ago and was to have run in the 1600m on tomorrow's programme, but has had a girth rash.
"It happened 12 days ago and we were able to get a saddle on him only this Tuesday," said Carter. "He's done a lot of swimming and work on my walking machine, so he hasn't lost any basic fitness."
Mr Multiwin showed he was feeling good about life when he breezed 600m in an electric 34.4 at Cambridge yesterday.
