Racing: Rain puts edge on big race

Auckland's answer to the Melbourne Cup just got a whole lot more interesting because of the rain.

The Auckland Cup will run at 5.45pm.

Racing tipster Mike Dillon said Pentane, Zarius and Kerry O'Reilly were early favourites to win, but that has changed with rain softening the track.

He said the weather has probably already put Kerry O'Reilly out of the running, but Pentane and Zarius are still the top two picks.

Mr Dillon suggested keeping an eye on outsider Kind Return which can handle a bit of give in the ground.

He said outsiders are All Square and Anne Carina.
