Trent Busuttin is racing the clock with his Group One winner Tavago.
The expatriate New Zealand trainer will nominate the son of Tavistock for Saturday's Gr.2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley, but is only a 50-50 chance to run in the 1600m race.
Ideally, he would like the race a week later and for that reason the five-year-old may resume in the Gr.1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington. "I'd probably prefer to go to Moonee Valley first-up on the StrathAyr track with him, but it's just a week too soon for where we are with him," said Busuttin, who trains Tavago with his partner Natalie Young. "We'll throw a nomination in and make a decision."
• Group One winner Perfect Fit has run her last race.
The daughter of Elusive City was retired after she tailed the field home in Saturday's Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy at Hastings. Perfect Fit won six of her 18 starts from the Matamata stable of Ken and Bev Kelso. She has a booking this spring to Exceed And Excel.
