Noel Graham's gallopers aren't short of stamina thanks to their work at home, but their slow starts have their trainer scratching his head going into today's meeting at Wingatui.
Graham alternates his team between a circular sand track up and down a hill at Abbotsford for their slow work and fast work at Ocean View beach, and his entries for today - Richard Trimbole and Emily Trimbole - were getting their final workouts yesterday.
Richard Trimbole tackles a 1600m event against his rating 65 rivals in race six, after getting held up twice at Wingatui on March 9 when finishing 10th of 11.
"He needed the run and a bit more ground will help," Graham said.
Emily Trimbole faces the same distance and quality of rivals as her half-brother when she jumps from barrier five in race seven - jump being the key factor. "She can't get out of the gates or when she hits the ground, she's a bit slow getting up there."
