KEY POINTS:
The battle for spots in the Auckland Trotting Cup just got tougher.
Queensland trainer Luke McCarthy has confirmed his exceptional pacer Slipnslide will be coming to Auckland for the $400,000 race at Alexandra Park on March 9.
McCarthy was convinced to bring Slipnslide after the multiple group one winner returned with a comeback victory at Albion Park on Saturday night.
"He is coming back to his best and I think Alexandra Park will really suit him," said McCarthy.
Slipnslide will have a right-handed workout at Harold Park in Sydney on Friday night and will make his Alexandra Park debut in what is shaping as a crucial free-for-all on March 2.
McCarthy's decision to pay the late entry fee into the race will intensify the pressure on those trying to win their way into the race.
There could be up to 20 legitimate contenders chasing 13 spots in the 2700m mobile.
