Pinprick looked ready to extend his winning formline at Ellerslie on Saturday when he worked in impressive style at Matamata yesterday, where fog affected the timing of gallops.
On a firmish sand, Pinprick (Coleman) set off from the 1200m mark to complete that distance in 1:16.2, picking up Chessee (Davidson) from the 1000m in 1:01.2 and maintaining a solid clip over the final 600m in 35.6. It was very good by Pinprick and showed that he has trained on well from his last start Awapuni win.
Smart sprinter Clifton Prince (Calder) was unextended to run 1000m in 1:06.2 and the last 600m in 37.8. He is forward to resume at Hastings tomorrow should improving track conditions persuade trainer Peter McKay to head in that direction.
Stablemate Mon Reve (Calder), who may also resume at Hastings, partnered Kay's Awake (McKay) over 1000m in 1:08.6, the final 600m in 39.8. Mon Reve, one of the unluckiest members of last season's two-year-old crop, is coming to hand well.
Another entry for Hastings, Bellevue Lass (Gartner), hit out well over 1200m in 1:22.8, the last 600m in 39.8. Over the same distance Delta Lady (M. Brosnan) recorded 1:22.6 and 40.3, looking well after her last start Ellerslie win.
It's All About Her was ridden by her trainer Jim Collett in a smart 1000m in 1:02.98 and final 600m in 35.5. Stablemate Silver Legacy (S. Collett) took 1:18.2 for 1200m and 38.6 for the final section.
Jokers Wild (M. Coleman), who will reappear at the Taupo trials in two weeks time, was allowed 1000m in 1:10.7 and 600m in 42. Good Shot (Greer) and First Up Fred (Verry) wasted no time over 1000m in 1:02.9, but no sectional time could be taken due to the fog.
Valley Princess (Wright) covered 1200m in 1:22.3 and 600m in 40.6. Tyson (Calder) and Bold Contact (Gorham) took 1:06.7 for 1000m and 38.2 for the last 600m, while The Shoe (Coleman) clocked 1:08 and 41.7.
Realign (Davidson) was not pushed over 1000m in 1:12.4, the last 600m in 40.6. Lunus (Waddell) ran in from the 800m in 543.2.
* Prince Chetak and Al Vialli galloped impressively together at Pukekohe yesterday.
Working 7m out on a heavy No 1 grass, Prince Chetak (Bradley) and Al Vialli (Evans) covered 1200m in 1:18, the last 1000 in 1:2 and 600 in 37.3.
Old Sox (Sargent), who ran an improved race last time out, completed 1200m with Echo Maid (Fearon) in 1:21.5, the last 1000 in 1:5.9 and 600 in 37.7.
Cooperator (Bradley) went 1600m, the last 1200 in 1:19.2, 1000 in 1:4.9 and 600 in 39.1.
Hamish (Trudy Collett) ran the last 800m of 1000 in 51.1 and 600 in 39.2.
Gallions Reach (Kelly), speeding up in training, did 600m in 40.4. On a slushy sand, Sheer Indulgence (Trudy Collett) sprinted 600m in 37.2.
* Magnetism and He's A Kool Dude worked nicely together during a quiet session at Cambridge yesterday.
Working on the No.l grass, which was heavy, Magnetism (Raynor) travelled nicely alongside stablemate He's A Kool Dude (Wilson) over 1000m in 1:4.6, sprinting the final 600m in 38.9. Magnetism raced erratically last start but looks ready to atone.
Galloping on the No.2 grass I Rock My World (Gedge) strode freely over 1000m in 1:6, finishing off in a comfortable 41. He is in excellent order for weekend racing.
Oh Buoy (Hills) completed 1000m in 1:8, finishing off in 41.3. Ocean Storm (Norvall) was given an easy task when covering 1200m in 1:30, the last 600m in 44.7.
