Racing: Petty Cury has chance to prove her first win was no fluke

Emerging horses are wonderful to follow at any time of year, but particularly right now.

Petty Cury at the Counties meeting at Pukekohe Park today is one of those horses.

That first-up win at Ellerslie was no fluke and she can make it two from two in Race 7 this afternoon.

From an inside draw she should be sitting on the pace and the small field plays into her hands.

Bouvier (No3, R1) is a good way to start the day. Nothing went right in the Dunstan Final, so forget that, and she is well placed in this field. The value for multiple bets is Belinda's Girl (No9).

From an inside barrier, Orbity (No7, R2) is going to take beating. She has had the experience of two starts in this juvenile event and her two seconds have been excellent.

Lots of chances in this race and it could be a bit of a tap for multiples.

Garland's (No8) debut run was good.

Sand'ior (No9, R3) has had little luck lately. She is a lot better than her form reads on paper and although drawn a bit awkwardly, the 2kg allowance will help her along the way. In an even field she rates fairly highly.

Sea Major (No11), Oh My Gosh (No7) and drop-back horse Pocket Diary (No3) are handy for multiple bets.

Just Got Home (No3, R4) is producing a record that shows him to be no everyday horse.

He has won three of his four races on this track and clearly the long home straight suits his finishing power. He is worth a lot of respect in this.

Guess What (No8) is jumping up two grades, but he has always looked a horse of ability and the step may not be a bridge too far. He comes in at a nice weight.

Carlotta (No5, R5) is one of the most underrated horses around. She can finish off big time when conditions suit and as a previous winner on this course she goes into this with a royal chance. She covered ground and was just 3.5 lengths from Miss Perlear in the Rich Hill Mile last time. This is easier. Postman's Daughter (No2) is the class act of the field if she can find her best on her home track which she has done three times previously.

•At Trentham on their big day, Pouri Charms (No5, R1) is each way value. She was probably always going to improve with her Thames run after a bit of a break and that was a pretty good effort.

She is nicely drawn to get the run of the race and don't be surprised if she bowls over a couple of the better fancied runners.

Things didn't go right for Irish Dream (No12, R2) until she drew a perfect barrier last start and was beaten into second, albeit with a little bad luck again. The barrier is perfect again and she represents good each-way value.

I Do (No6, R6) has done nothing wrong this preparation and she can make the step up to open company today. The wide barrier looks ugly, but Vinny Colgan has the whole back straight to work with to get her in. If he does, the mare's guts might be enough to do the rest.
