KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - Kiwi stayer Pentathon faces a tough task to win Monday's Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm after being given topweight of 58kg.
The 5-year-old, who rocketed into contention with a barnstorming P.J. O'Shea Stakes (2200m) victory on Saturday, will set a modern day weight-carrying record if successful.
The biggest impost carried to victory since the metric scale was introduced 34 years ago was 57kg with which Igloo won in 1974.
Champion Tulloch, who lumped the equivalent of 62.5kg when successful in 1961, was the last horse to win with more than 58kg.
While the race distance has been reduced from 3200m to 2400m and its status downgraded from a group one to group two, history suggests Pentathon will have to be special.
O'Shea third placegetter Grand Zulu has 57kg, 1kg more than Chairman's Handicap winner Mandela, with Lachlan River and Victorian Forest Knight on 55kg.
Freakish filly Gold Edition is among nominations for Monday's Queensland Guineas (1600m) along with Sniper's Bullet.
Both will run in the Stradbroke Hcp (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday but their connections indicate they will back up in the Guineas.
