Cambridge trainer Shaune Ritchie sees his runner Military Move as the horse to watch outside the favourites in the Derby.
That's supported by the way Military Move ran on late into fifth after being third last on the home bend in the Championship Stakes at Ellerslie last start.
The wide barrier draw dictated Military Move's rearward position in running that day, but this time from the No 4 gate things will be different.
"He's drawn for an economical run," says Ritchie.
"From there he'll be second, third or fourth - I don't think he'll lead - and he'll get a soft run the entire way."
Draws will be important with three of the favourites, Zarzuela, Corporal Jones and Katie Lee in gates 13, 11 and 10.
"You couldn't have picked a better barrier draw scenario if you'd done it yourself," said Ritchie.
"My bloke's sprinting bred and the 2400m has always been the question, but perhaps not the way he's been running on.
"He's better than a fluker's chance.
"I think he's overs at $26. If punters are looking for something behind the favourites he's probably the one."
It will be the final start from the Ritchie stable for Military Move, who heads to Hong Kong after the race.
"Talk about a grand final."
