KEY POINTS:
Cox Plate-winning jockey Luke Nolen is free to ride Blutigeroo in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup after having his suspension for careless riding reduced by a day yesterday.
Nolen was originally suspended until midnight on Melbourne Cup day after pleading guilty to causing interference aboard El Segundo over the final stages of last Saturday's Cox Plate.
However Nolen successfully appealed against the severity of the suspension to the racing appeals and disciplinary board.
His suspension now ends at midnight on Monday. Meanwhile, Danny Brereton has been booked to replace Nolen on El Segundo in Saturday's Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.
But El Segundo's trainer Colin Little hasn't confirmed whether the six-year-old will take his place in the group one weight-for-age event.
"He'll either have one more run and go out or we'll put him out tomorrow. We haven't made that decision yet," Little said last night.
El Segundo drew barrier six in the 15-horse field.
The Graeme Rogerson-trained Efficient was not among the Mackinnon acceptors and will go straight into the Melbourne Cup.
Efficient, who was not suited in a slowly-run Cox Plate and finished ninth, has since had a jumping session and will race without blinkers in the cup.
The reigning Victoria Derby winner raced in blinkers for the first time in the Cox Plate.
