A trip to Ashburton last week proved a double success for Wingatui-based trainer Paul Richards with sprinter Natuzzi enjoying both a comfortable win in the open 1000m trial and the road trip as he prepares for his bid at the Stewards Stakes (1200m) at Riccarton next month.
Richards has been eyeing the sprint feature as the fresh-up target of a summer campaign for Natuzzi which may culminate in the Telegraph Hcp at Trentham in January.
"He has been back in work since the beginning of July and has done everything right. Chris Johnson only really asked him to put in over the last 200m and he stretched out well so I'm confident he is on track for a good effort at Riccarton."
