KEY POINTS:
Trainer Stephen McKee know victory with Mufhasa in omorrow's $200,000 Whakanui Stud Stakes at Te Rapa could actually cost him money.
McKee is very aware that a win in the group one event could cost him his chance of winning the Doncaster Handicap in Sydney.
Mufhasa is already very much on the Sydney handicapper's radar after wins in the $300,000 Couplands Bakeries Mile at Riccarton and Trentham's group one $1 million Telegraph Handicap.
Add another group one to the list and Mufhasa could end up in the near impossible position of having to give weight to strong Australian Doncaster contenders.
Sunline is one Kiwi galloper that gave weight to the Australians in their short-course races, but few others have managed it.
But McKee knows he has no choice but to run.
"This horse has got to the point where if he doesn't run in a race like this, what does he run in.
"There's nothing else around for him. If it means he gets too much weight in the Doncaster then so be it, he can run in a couple of weight-for-age races in Australia."
Mufhasa has drawn wide at No 14, but McKee does not see that as an issue.
"There's a long run down the back straight from the 1400m at Te Rapa and he's got plenty of speed.
"He races best on the speed and he's most comfortable when he's in the first four."
