Waikato trainer Bill Borrie says he will make a decision on Miss Potential's racing future this week.
Miss Potential finished last in the Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm in Brisbane on Saturday, after jockey Shane Scriven stopped riding her 100m from the finish.
"The jockey said he felt her go amiss and she was sore afterwards in her offside shoulder," Borrie told NZPA from the United States, where he is on business.
"She is heading home for her paddock and she just might stay there," he said.
However, he did not want to make a final decision on whether to retire her until he saw her himself. Borrie returns from the US mid-week.
He intends to have her mated again this year but said he had not yet chosen a sire.
