Today marks a milestone for Southland trainer Sarah Donaldson.
She will be starting her first runner at a race meeting when Yoyo contests the Kina Craig Stud Pace at the Northern Southland Trotting Club's meeting at Ascot Park.
Donaldson is in her second season of training, but until now did not have a horse suitable to race.
She hopes Yoyo can change the fortunes of Bluff owner Ben Calder, whose tough gelding in Barry Purdon's Clevedon stable, Soky Stallone, is sidelined for five months with a damaged pastern.
Yoyo, formerly trained at Ryal Bush by Simon Pavlovich, will have her third start in today's novice pace (2200m).
She was unplaced in her first outing at Ascot Park on May 13, but improved to finished third in the $15,000 Sires' Stakes Fillies' Silver at Addington on May 26.
Her performance at Addington was meritorious, as she settled back and maintained a strong run from the 800m.
Yoyo has been to three workouts in this preparation, for a win and two thirds.
