SYDNEY - The decision to delay Media's retirement to the broodmare barn is one Sydney trainer Bob Thomsen is sure will reap group-one rewards in the autumn.
The four-year-old has been placed in three group-one races and Thomsen believes it is just a matter of time before she wins a big race.
There was talk after she was unplaced in the Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane in June that Media would be retired but instead she went for a long spell and is now back at Randwick where Thomsen is preparing her for the Melbourne autumn sprint triple crown.
"It pleases me no end that she didn't go to stud," Thomsen said.
"She was given a complete rest of three months and not many horses, especially mares, get the benefit of that."
Media will resume in the Listed Canterbury Stakes (1100m) at the Canterbury night meeting on January 18.
She would then go to Melbourne for the group-one sprints, said Thomsen.
"The fact that they will be run on turning tracks is a big plus because she didn't like the Flemington straight the only time she ran on it.
"I believe she has a group one win in her and she really deserves it."
