Former New Zealand jockey Shane Dye celebrated his first winner at Randwick yesterday since returning to Sydney's riding ranks just eight days ago.
The 41-year-old, who has been riding in Hong Kong for the past eight seasons, steered the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fancyfree to victory in the Campbelltown Welter.
Dye and Waterhouse forged a successful association in the past, combining to win the 1995 Victoria Derby with Nothin' Leica Dane, and the hoop was quick to praise the trainer.
"It's easy to ride for Gai Waterhouse isn't it?" Dye said.
The supremely confident two-time Sydney jockeys' premiership winner was asked if it was the beginning of a winning run for him.
"It all depends what I get on. If I get on the right horses I'll be winning," he said.
