KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - International jockey Kerrin McEvoy has been released from hospital but is not likely to ride for at least two months as he recovers from injuries received in a race fall at Flemington.
McEvoy suffered bruising to the brain and lacerations when his mount, Butterfield, and Vie, ridden by Dwayne Dunn, both fell in the Crown Trophy (1100m) last Thursday.
"Kerrin was discharged yesterday [Monday] which was sooner than anticipated," Victorian Jockeys' Association chief executive Des O'Keeffe said.
"The doctors are very happy with his progress but he will have a couple of months off because of the nature of the concussion.
"It's a very similar scenario to last year and he will be spending Christmas with his family at Streaky Bay."
It was the second successive year McEvoy had to be hospitalised after a fall down the straight course during Melbourne Cup week.
In The Age Classic on the final day of last year's carnival his mount Queen Of The Hill fell after clipping the heels of another horse, resulting in McEvoy having plastic surgery for a deep laceration to his forehead.
The 26-year-old is the No 2 rider behind Frankie Dettori for the global Godolphin stable and will miss next month's International meeting in Hong Kong. However, he is expected to travel to Dubai early next year to ride in the lead-up carnival to the World Cup meeting in March before returning to Europe.
Stewards questioned Dunn about Thursday's incident but adjourning an inquiry until McEvoy could give evidence.
