Sysmo has yet to win beyond 1600m but his trainer Tony McEvoy is convinced that's when he will be seen at his best.
On that basis, McEvoy expects a big showing in Thursday's Summer Cup (2000m) at Randwick from the 5-year-old who will be ridden by Robert Thompson.
Sysmo won the Seymour Cup on October 20 but suffered a foot abscess after his next start on November 9 when he ran third at Flemington.
It needed to be treated, forcing Sysmo to miss a scheduled start and prompting McEvoy to change plans and run him in the group two Villiers Stakes in which he finished eighth, 3 lengths from the winner, Ninth Legion.
"He's come through the Villiers really well. The mile is not ideal for him and I'm looking forward to getting him back to 2000m," McEvoy said.
