"She is one of his really big star rides and he is very keen to be on her in the Caulfield Cup," said Cossey.
"So that means missing Hastings next week."
McDonald has commitments in Sydney on October 1 as well, when Foxwedge, who he rides in the Golden Rose at Rosehill this Saturday, is expected to start.
"James will ride in Sydney that Saturday and Melbourne on the Sunday, which is Turnbull Stakes Day.
"That means missing the Spring Classic, which he had a really good ride in." Cossey says that while McDonald will keep up his crazy travel schedule until after the Melbourne Cup Carnival, he can see the record-smashing jockey spending summer closer to home.
"I think once we get into the carnivals here with the good races at Riccarton, up here in the north and then Trentham he will spend most of his time here.
"That could last through until Auckland Cup Week in March and then I suppose we will have to sit down and have a talk about what the future holds.
"But obviously he is very sought after in Australia and that makes a lot of financial sense for him."
Foxwedge and McDonald face the unenviable task of taking on Australia's latest A$10 million colt Smart Missile in Saturday's Golden Rose, for which the latter is rated a $1.75 favourite after his breathtaking last-start victory.
With only five rivals on Saturday, Smart Missile looks set to remain unbeaten and keep adding to his growing price as a future stallion prospect.
Smart Missile is also being viewed as a Cox Plate contender, where he sits on the $16 fourth line of betting alongside Kiwi hero Jimmy Choux.
That market is headed by Whobegotyou at $7 but with two-time champion So You Think not defending his title, the Cox Plate is shaping as one of the more open in recent years.
Scarlett Lady and Lion Tamer remain tight in Melbourne Cup betting with Aussie bookmakers, but one of the biggest Kiwi-trained movers in early markets for the Aussie spring group ones is 3-year-old Sangster.
He tightened from $31 to $11 for the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick on October 1 after his huge second in Sydney last Saturday.
But omen punters should beware, fellow Kiwi galloper Lion Tamer was a big mover before the Spring Champion Stakes last season, only to race well below his best there, then come out and win the VRC Derby two starts later.
James McDonald will be hoping Scarlett Lady, second favourite for the Caulfield Cup, lives up to expectations in Melbourne.
