Up and coming bloodstock agent Glen Harvey signed for the sale topper at New Zealand Bloodstock's Winter Sale of Mixed Bloodstock at Karaka yesterday, when securing (Lot 12) Markisa, in foal to Ocean Park for $90,000.
Presented by Wentwood Grange, Markisa is a winning Danehill daughter of Group One winner Marquise, who in turn is a daughter of the great Eight Carat.
"It's one of the best families in the stud book and she has been bought for a Hunter Valley-based breeder," said Harvey. "We broke her in as a yearling at Ascot Farm before she went to Don Sellwood and she always showed good ability.
"She's a quality mare in foal to an exciting young sire in Ocean Park."
Harvey saw off spirited competition, with fellow young agent Mike Rennie relegated to the role of under bidder. Rennie later secured imported Authorized mare (Lot 82) Everlong for $37,000, who recently retired from the Mike Moroney & Chad Ormsby Stable.
