KEY POINTS:
Students of weight relativity in racing will want to be on Our Mavourneen to make it two on end in tomorrow's $25,000 Ford Fairview Motors Handicap at Te Awamutu.
When she made a winning return to racing at Tauranga recently, Our Mavourneen carried 53kg, and drops 2.5kg for tomorrow's race.
Spare The Detail, who chased her home at Tauranga, drops only 2kg because the pair jump up a class and Spare The Detail cannot be dropped lower than the 53kg minimum.
That gives Our Mavourneen a decent advantage, but when factors like suitability of track and track conditions and numerous other incidentals are weighed up, such advantages can be overturned.
One natural advantage is that Our Mavourneen will only need to be walked across the road to the races.
The handy mare has not won in two starts on her home track, but her wet-track stats are impressive and it will be a surprise if she does not make an appearance in the finish.
Spare The Detail looked an improver from Tauranga.
She is a talented mare with rain around and there was a lot to like about the way she fought back when headed last time when she was coming off a short break.
Don't Ya Lovett and Floydeboy are the class acts of the field and the big apprentice claim on Floydeboy puts him right in the race - the 4kg drops him to 54.5kg, only 1.5kg above the minimum.
Don't Ya Lovett will carry his full 59kg and although he has won over this 1150m on this track, it is a touch short of his best distances.
In Don't Ya Lovett's favour is that he will be fitter for his two 1200m races so far this preparation. The testing conditions are also what he excels on.
Even though his name finishes with the three letters we associate with winter racing, Tenjuberrymud is in fact better on firmer conditions than he will strike tomorrow.
Nine of his 10 wins have been on either good or dead surfaces and he may struggle a touch late in the day when conditions are certain to be very testing.
Plenty of interest will focus in the reappearance of Primo Canera in the steeplechase, Race 3, at Te Awamutu. He has won four of his seven steeplechases and is on a countdown to the Great Northern Steeplechase.
* Latest odds: $4.80 Floydeboy; $5 Spare The Detail, Our Mavourneen, Don't Ya Lovett; $8.50 My Lips Ar Sealed; $10 Tenjuberrymud; $14 Stateswoman; $17 Avaroadi; $18 Dav And Ming; $26 Vicenzo, Choo Choo Devil.
