KEY POINTS:
Twinkthaat overcame a wide draw to score an upset win in the $95,000 South Island Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes at Riccarton yesterday.
Twinkthaat drew 16 in a field of 17 and was third-last in the early stages.
The Faltaat 5-year-old remained in the rear group until approaching the home turn where rider Lisa Cropp took the horse to the outside.
In the home straight Twinkthaat unwound strongly to score by a long neck, returning a win dividend of $26.70.
Twinkthaat went into the race amongst the lowest-rated runners. She had won two of her previous 29 starts but had been a regular placegetter with six seconds and five thirds.
Second favourite Sila Jasak battled strongly for second after leading from barrier one. Rider Danielle Johnson had to change ground with Sila Jasak in the straight and once into the clear she ran home stoutly.
A long head away third was Lots And Lots with the same margin back to fourth-placed One Love, who raced outside the leader most of the way.
A neck away fifth was the favourite Fuar who raced in the rear but improved to be right behind the winner at the top of the straight.
