KEY POINTS:
Was Gai Waterhouse serious or just drumming up publicity for the four-pronged Australian sprint challenge in England this week?
Waterhouse, who has Bentley Biscuit in England, told reporters last week that she would "give anything to train here. I've never had the opportunity, but if it arose I would grab it by the horns," said the successful Australian trainer.
Bentley Biscuit will tackle Wednesday's (NZT) King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot along withfellow Australians Takeover Target, Miss Andretti and Mangus.
Magnetism retired
Magnetism's career is over after bleeding during the running of the Ecolab Excelerate Mile at Ellerslie.
The race was won stylishly by former Hong Kong galloper Spin Around, who has been magnificently brought back from suspensoryproblems by Auckland trainer Steve Cooper.
The Englishman is on his way home for three weeks' holiday and will return to aim Spin Around at the Winter Cup at Riccarton.
Spin Around's rider, Gavin McKeon, completed a winning treble at Ellerslie, but ended the day on a sour note when suspended for three racedays in the last on board Ebony Strange.
Ebony Strange was relegated from first to third.
Michael Walker also received three racedays for causing interference at Awapuni on Saturday.
One to watch
Some time soon Somethymesoon could be a headline grabber.
If the debut juvenile winner proved one thing at Ellerslie on Saturday, it was that she has a big heart.
In the worst of the footing along the inside, where no other horse could win all day, Somethymesoon looked to be under pressure for most of the home straight as she battled a group of horses wider on the track, but she refused to concede and beat Triple Tipple by a head.
Leanne Bertling should have no trouble placing her.
