KEY POINTS:
Bruxaar was confirmed for the $200,000 Levin Classic after posting his second win in three starts at Awapuni on Saturday.
The Australian-bred gelding by Xaar was backed into $1.90 favouritism for the $20,000 Spring Stakes (1200m) for 3-year-olds and after trailing the leader was presented with a gap of the top of the straight.
Bruxaar came through in good style to score by half a length with second favourite Cape Point finishing well for second after being held up for a run in the straight.
Bruxaar is trained at New Plymouth by Allan Sharrock who said he would give the horse one further start before the group one Levin Classic (1600m) for 3-year-olds at Otaki on November 29.
Sharrock said the lead-up race would possibly be at Hawera on November 21 in which he would be required to step out of his age group and probably against strong opposition.
"It's a [rating] 90 race but it could be just the run I need to get him to a mile," Sharrock said.
Bruxaar has not raced beyond 1200m but Sharrock is convinced the horse will be suited to the 1600m of Levin Classic.
