Pukekohe trainer Richard Collett's quick actions could pay dividends at Tauranga today.
Collett, who trains in partnership with Shane Hapeta, took advantage of the extended deadline of nominations for the Oakridge Masonry 2170 at the Racing Tauranga meeting and entered Sideto Emdeca.
Sideto Emdeca was to have run at Ellerslie last Thursday but a deluge turned the track soft and Collett knew that would be against his Kaapstad mare so withdrew her.
He subsequently nominated Sideto Emdeca for the Tauranga 2170m event and is hoping better track conditions prevail.
Sideto Emdeca had been one of the favourites for the Manawatu Cup last start, but failed to handle the soft going and wound up ninth, just under four lengths from the winner, All Square.
Beforehand Sideto Emdeca was a strong-finishing second behind Single Sun at Ellerslie and in two previous runs this campaign had finished third, fresh-up, to Danz Star and then won over the course and distance of today's assignment.
Sideto Emdeca, who is in her last season of racing [she is in foal to One Cool Cat], has a strong record at Tauranga, having had four starts on the track for the one win and two placings.
Another leading chance in the rating 94 event is From Heaven who was sixth in the Manawatu Cup last start.
Trainer Ian Shaw is heading From Heaven towards a further tilt at the Wellington Cup, hoping to improve on the horse's third placing in the race last year.
Fountain Abbey was a creditable sixth in the Waikato Gold Cup last start and rates a chance today, while other prospects include Jack Hobbs, Cool Talk, British Made, Aeroforce One and Logarhythm.
