KEY POINTS:
A second Australian-trained horse is to run in the New Zealand Derby.
Currigee, from the Melbourne stable of Peter Moody, was yesterday a late entry for the group one $700,000 feature over 2400m for 3-year-olds in Auckland on March 3.
Late entries, at a cost of $20,000, closed yesterday and Currigee was the only one.
The other Australian-trained entry for the derby is Redoute's Dancer who vaulted to favouritism following his victory last Saturday in the group two $100,000 Championship Stakes (2100m) for 3-year-olds at Ellerslie.
Redoute's Dancer was yesterday a $3 favourite derby favourite on the New Zealand TAB's fixed-odds market while Currigee was listed as a $10 equal third favourite.
Currigee, a gelding by Danewin, has raced six times for four wins, of which the last three have been in succession.
His last win was in the group three A$200,000 Tasmanian Derby (2200m) on February 10.
Currigee has stake earnings of A$161,000 ($180,000) and is presently 10th in the order of entry for the Derby.
He is booked to be flown to Auckland on Monday.
