KEY POINTS:
Kristov looked right on target for Saturday's Marton meeting when he worked brilliantly at Matamata yesterday.
Galloping on a fast plough, Kristov (Johansen) put on the pace from the 1000m mark to run that distance in 1:02.5 and hit the line after a final 600m in 34.4. It was exceptional work as Kristov prepares for a return to his favourite track, where his wins include last year's version of the 1400m event he will contest this weekend.
Pentane (O'Sullivan) and Stolen Thunder (Colgan) turned in good work for Ellerslie on Saturday when they cut out a solid 1200m in 1:14.8, the last 1000m in 1:01 and 600m in 35.5. Pentane will resume over 1600m, while promising three-year-old Stolen Thunder will contest an age group race over the same distance.
Arlingtonboulevard (Bosson) continued her preparation for the Thorndon Mile when she and Spring Dancer (S. Collett) ran 1000m in 1:03, the last 600m in a smart 34.8. Ciara (Ikee), another headed to the Trentham feature, covered the same distance in 1:01.2 and 34.7. She has trained on well from her good third in the Rich Hill Mile.
Stablemate Roussay (Bosson), who left a massive impression with his debut third at Ellerslie, was not after time when he ran 1000m in 1:06.9 and 600m in 38.6. He will start next in the Wakefield Challenge Stakes on the first day at Trentham.
Additionally (Sapsworth) worked well to shade Soelin (A. Carston) over 1200m in 1:17 and 600m in 35.4, while Stolen Symphony (Dowling) also caught the eye when leading Olympic Light (Sapsworth) to the end of 1200m in 1:16.9, the last 600m in 37.2.
Twopaddocks (J. Collett) turned in a good trial for Ellerslie when he went with Carmenere (Wenn) over 1200m in 1:15.5, the final 600m in 36.1. Everswindell (Sliz) and Pulborough (Smellie) were in dashing form over 1200m in 1:13.4 and 600m in 34.8.
Taalisman (Gillies), who returns to Ellerslie on Saturday, worked on the all-weather track, where he covered 1000m in 1:08.8 and 600m in 40.2.
* Last-start winners Kingsinga and Miss Monk promised further success at the weekend judged by their efforts in training at Pukekohe yesterday.
Working on the all-weather sand, Kingsinga (Hapeta) led Punt Higher (Judy Collett) in the finish of 1200m in 1:17.5, the last 1000 in 1:2.5 and 600 in 36.8.
Miss Monk (Prangley) dashed 800m in 48.3, the final 600 in a very slick 34.9. Prized Touch (Singer), looking even better for his winning race at Ellerslie, sprinted 800m with Chimalis (N. Collett) in 48.5, the last 600 in 36.3.
Cadillac (Bertling) completed 1000m in 1:3.5, the last 600 in 37.4. Gallions Reach (Yetton) and Larrinka (Spratt) ran the last 1200m of 1600 in 1:19.7, steadying for the closing 600 in 40.6.
Superalloy (Hapeta) ended 800m in 50.8, the last 600 in 37.3. Sir Cross (Spratt) and Black Tracker (Yetton) galloped 1000m in 1:1.9, the last 600 in 38.1.
