"But to have any shot at the Windsor Park [now on October 24] he has to start this week so he will go around in the 1400m race even though he has got 60kg.
"I think the handicapper will beat him but he needs the race; simple as that."
Sharrock says the heartbreak of the Windsor Park being abandoned didn't really sink in for him until two days after the event.
"That was when I fully realised what we were missing out on," he told the Herald.
"Triple crowns don't come along very often for any trainer and he had the first leg in the bag and was in perfect condition for the second leg.
"But we have had to get over that and move on. So we have set new goals."
While the Taranaki trainer has no concerns over Kawi's condition for Saturday since many of his key rivals also missed races at the abandoned meeting, he warns punters that he may still simply not be able to win.
"He has got 60kgs and Ryan Mark, who pushed him close last start with the same weight, has 56kg," he says.
"I thought their runs were of about equal merit last time out so how can we beat him 4kg worse off?
"I know my horse is big enough to carry a decent weight and I was confident we could beat Ryan Mark over 1400m last time because he is probably not a natural seven furlong horse.
"But with the pull in the weights this time I think we will struggle to catch him. I could be wrong but that is my honest opinion."
Sharrock ignored any temptation to change plans after the abandonment and sneak in a hit-and-run mission on the Melbourne spring riches.
"You can't let things like this force you into a kneejerk reaction and as I said to my old mate Butch Castles [Hastings boss] after the races, we will laugh about this one day.
"But I can tell you, that day hasn't come yet."
The Kawi-Ryan Mark rematch in a race loaded with talent looks one of the highlights of the day and while the Livamol has been obviously weakened, the Hawkes Bay Guineas and Gold Trail Stakes have both attracted some class entrants.
Pondarosa Miss is the new $5 favourite for the Livamol, ahead of Addictive Habit and Soriano both at $5.50, with the final field out today.
While Sharrock has his reservations about Kawi's winning chances this Saturday, he is far more confident with The Bold One in the Rating 85 sprint. "He was good fresh up and will be even better for that run," he says.
"He had a little problem last season but the wind operation has fixed him up and he is a good horse. I'll be stunned if he doesn't go close."
