Soriano's wins at Tauranga (over Kawi) and at Avondale last start showed the group one mare to be at least as good as at any stage of her career, if not better.
From her home turn position she was not entitled to win either race, but picked up and simply flew the final 200m each time.
She is as tough as they come and a similar effort to Tauranga or Avondale puts her right in the frame here.
Sakhee's Soldier was expected to produce something better at Ellerslie last week after two preparatory races, but Matt Cameron jumped off after a fifth placing and said "next time he'll be fit". He is right up to the best and deserves consideration.
Julinsky Prince has beaten Kawi, giving him weight last preparation but Kawi just edged past him at Tauranga for second last start and if he'd had luck would have beaten him by a margin. Rain would be Julinsky Prince's best chance.
Class act Ryan Mark has one bogey to overcome in tomorrow's $70,000 Stella Artois Concorde at Ellerslie.
Ryan Mark has won seven of just 13 raceday appearances, but he has yet to get over the line first at Ellerslie.
Despite his 59kg, he gets his chance in tomorrow's feature. His 1200m record is five wins and two placings from nine starts.
Ryan Mark got home at Rotorua last start after working hard from an outside barrier and only just managed to hold out talented Scapolo, and from gate No 8 he may have to do a similar amount of work this time.
Durham Town is the interesting runner. As usual he badly needed his first-up run, but rarely takes much racing to find form - his second-up record of three wins and a placing from five starts confirms that.
He is all class and can carry weight, so the 59.5kg is not prohibitive.
Whosyourmaster has 60kg topweight, but can never be ruled out of at least multiples over 1200m.
Haunui Farm sire Showcasing should mount a stout defence of his Group 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes title at Trentham tomorrow.
Showcasing left last year's winner Showboy in his first New Zealand crop and is the sire of three of the eight horses in the 2015 line-up.
The son of Oasis Dream will be represented in the Wakefield by Caorunn, Cavallucci and Hiphop.
New Zealand is set for a flying start to the Origin Jockeys' Series with Danielle Johnson drawing a pair of plumb rides at Doomben tomorrow.
The in-form jockey will partner the favourite Hesitation in the first heat and Pillar of Creation, who has been in the money in each of his last eight starts, in the second.
The inaugural series will run over the next four Saturdays with Queensland the favourite ahead of New Zealand, Victoria and NSW.
Weekend Tip
Freshened: Selfie, R5 Ellerslie. Coming back from the Hawke's Bay Guineas and should be very competitive.
No luck last time: Promises, R9 Trentham: Walking backwards as the start was made and settled in rear. No room in home straight and eased by Opie Bosson.
Due: Palace Rock, R7 Trentham. Close third to two very smart types at Avondale last time. This looks fractionally easier.
