Star English chaser Kauto Star was described as being "as bright as a button" on Sunday, as trainer Paul Nicholls told the Racing Post that a more authoritative horse would be in evidence on his next two appearances, when he bids for a unique fourth successive win in the William Hill King George VI Chase and a third Totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup.
On his first start since his Gold Cup victory in March, Kauto Star was stretched to his limit by Imperial Commander as he secured victory by a nose in Saturday's Betfair Chase at Haydock.
