Racing: Juvenile event may go ahead

Application has been made to run the abandoned $20,000 Vodafone Warriors Women In League Fillies Classic next week.

Yesterday's Avondale meeting was called off after three races when the Judicial Control Authority and stipendiary stewards agreed with jockeys that visibility was problematic.

Heavy rain in Auckland before racing began then through the three races that were run produced conditions that jockeys deemed potentially dangerous.

Not long after the meeting was called off the weather cleared and the remainder of the day was clear and fine.

Avondale has a meeting on Friday next week and many trainers believe the opportunity to run a 2-year-old cannot be missed.

"The Foal Stakes at Ellerslie is two weeks after Friday next week and that would be perfect.

"Getting into 2-year-old races is an issue. Yet, you go to the trials and the first 20 heats will be for 2-year-olds."
