The powerful Roger James stable could produce another couple of winners tomorrow, judging by the way Spottswoode and The Pumper came through their final fast work for Te Rapa at Matamata yesterday.
On a firm sand, Spottswoode and The Pumper kept on terms over 1200m, run attractively in 1:17.4, the 1000 in 1:3 and 600 in 36.8.
Down South Rose was another who finished her work in good style, covering 1200m in 1:18.4, the 600 in 37.6. Neon Blaze came out of a fog travelling well after 1200m in 1:24.
In-form Te Akau Jack was kept to a steady 1200m in 1:28.8, the 600 in 41. Jet Zee was keen to go faster than 1:23 for 1200, the 600 in 37.
Gordon's went 1200m under double wraps in 1:25, the 600 in 40.2. Bronze did similar work in 1:25 and 39.8.
Miss Lewinsky and Bad Luck Tim took 1:8.2 for 1000m, the 600 in 38.2. Blanc De Chine and Merlos ran a solid 1200 in 1:19.4, the 600 in 37.6.
On a firm all-weather track, Al Borak cut out 1000m in 1:4.8, the 600 in 37.2. Ally McBeal ended some striding work with 600 in 38.8.
Indian Chant again took time honours at Cambridge, maintaining a strong pace over 1000m on a firm No 2 grass, 5m out, in 57.8, the 600 in 35.
Hidden Keel also went fast, taking 1:13 for 1200m, the 600 in 37. Star Angel and Rice Terrace wound up for Awapuni tomorrow with a steady 600m in 39.
Roma Lad was untroubled to run 1000m in 1:2.2, the 600 in 37.5. Don't Cry For Me showed speed over 1000, the last 800 in a smart 48.
Honor Bound, a leading chance at Te Rapa, took the eye at Te Aroha while working freely over 1200m on a good plough in 1:15, the 600 in 37.2.
Los Bravos, another form runner for Te Rapa, was restricted to pacework. Royal Orb, preparing for Tauranga next Wednesday, ran 1400m under a hold in 1:40, the 600 in 41.9.
Miss Pollyanna, an unlucky fourth last time out at Ellerslie, galloped soundly on a dead, slow plough at Takanini to return 1:6.6 for 1000m, the 600 in 39.9.
Gypsy Moth looked ready for a step up up to a middle distance when running the last 1200m of 1600 in 1:24.2, the 600 in 42.2.
Wild Blood did 1000m nicely enough in 1:8.6, the 600 in 40.8. Tantamount galloped 1200 in 1:24, the 600 in 41.6.
Watt, an improver for Te Rapa, recorded the best gallop at Te Awamutu, doing his best work at the finish of 1000m on a good plough in 1:2, the 600 in 35.2.
Magic Rose and Bobby Boucher went fast early over 1000m in 1:1.8, the 600 in 37.8. Gone did 1000 evenly in 1:2.7, the 600 in 36.
Kickit finished two rounds of pacework with 1000 in 1:4.9, the 600 in 36.7. Vera's Star sprinted 800 with a Kaapstad gelding in 48.6, the 600 in 35.3.
The stablemates Noble Prospect and Country Squire took time honours on a firm No 2 grass at Te Rapa.
Noble Prospect worked with zip over 800m in 48, the 600 in 36.4. Country Squire hit out soundly over 1200 in 1:14.8, the 600 in 37.
