Racing: James congident before Rosehill Guineas

Although boom Kiwi filly Silent Achiever has dominated the 3-year-old staying races in her homeland, trainer Roger James believes, on her recent trackwork, the best is yet to come.

Silent Achiever has won her past four starts including a runaway last-start victory in the New Zealand Derby and makes her Australian debut in this Saturday's Rosehill Guineas.

"She's never been a great trackworker but on her work last week she's gone up a notch as that was her best-ever work," James told the Herald Sun.

Although Silent Achiever is an $8 favourite for the Australian Derby with TAB Sportsbet, James has not committed to a start.

He said that Silent Achiever would run in either the AJC Oaks or the AJC Derby but not both.

He said running in the Rosehill Guineas opened up both options for her.

"That's a good starting point for us as it's either two weeks to the Derby or three weeks to the Oaks."

The other factor James is weighing up is what Australia's champion filly Mosheen is going to do.

This week James has managed to bypass her in the Rosehill Guineas as Mosheen will start the following week in the Vinery Stakes.

Mosheen's connections have also not made a decision whether they might go to the Oaks or the Derby and this would be an influencing factor in what James does.

Silent Achiever will arrive in Australia today and will be ridden by Hugh Bowman in the Rosehill Guineas.

Victorian trainer Mick Price had a simple comment that spoke volumes for Samaready after she blitzed the group two Reisling Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

"There's a big V8 motor in that little filly," Price enthused.

Samaready firmed from $3.20 to a dominant $2.50 favourite for the A$3.5 million Golden Slipper with an authoritative win that stamped her as the horse to beat in the big race at Rosehill on April 7.

She maintained her unbeaten record, scoring her fourth win and allaying any fears she could struggle with the Sydney way of going.

"I think she is better going this way," jockey Craig Newitt said.

"She was on her Sydney leg the whole way, not a problem in the world."

Samaready is now striving to join Bounding Away (1986) and Courtza (1989) as the only fillies to complete the Blue Diamond-Golden Slipper double.
