Great Getaway's Interdominion dream goes on the line at Alexandra Park tonight.
But trainer John Dickie will have to watch it on television as he spreads his stable stars between three tracks this weekend.
The Cambridge horseman says Great Getaway is not only ready to win race eight tonight but has to to have any chance of making the Interdoms on March 25.
"That is still the target but she needs at least this win and maybe another to qualify," said Dickie.
"But we are confident she can win this week and the small field helps.
"She worked well last Saturday and this is her chance."
Great Getaway will be driven by champion reinsman Tony Herlihy, who will drive four favourites tonight and looks set to become our first horseperson to score 3000 New Zealand career wins. That could even come early in the programme as he has Tuapeka Kahu (R1), Veste (R2) and Bettor Dream (R4).
If Herlihy reaches the milestone it will be marked by a presentation on behalf of the Auckland Trotting Club.
But Dickie's attention will be somewhere else as he will be at Addington with two-year-old trotter Flying Isa.
"He is a decent horse who has had no luck but I think he can improve quickly this week."
Tomorrow he heads to Ashburton with Paramount Geegee and last season's Australasian Breeders Crown winner faces a hot field in the Hambletonian. "He badly needed the run fresh-up and won well at the workouts here on Tuesday so I think he will go very close," said Dickie.
