Rangy filly We Can Say It Now may not be suited by barrier one in Levin Classic.
Luckless Cambridge filly We Can Say It Now has drawn the danger alley yet again for tomorrow's $200,000 Levin Classic at Otaki.
What's the odds of drawing the No 1 barrier in three group races?
It's massive. The connections of most top 3-year-olds would love it.
So far, it's probably cost We Can Say It Now her winning chance in the Hawkes Bay Guineas and almost certainly a win in the $300,000 1000 Guineas at Riccarton.
There is even a suggestion We Can Say It Now could be a doubtful starter from the inside gate tomorrow, despite being posted as the $3.50 favourite with the TAB yesterday.
"We'll just have to wait and see," said co-trainer Murray Baker.
We Can Say It Now is a long-striding filly, the type who will probably always be disadvantaged by a tight barrier.
We Can Say It Now should have won the 1000 Guineas.
She was locked up behind the leaders, three places back on the rail to the home turn, then could not find racing room all the way down the long Riccarton home straight.
A consideration for the connections is that Riccarton, similar to Trentham, often sees gaps along the inside difficult to find in the home straight.
The camber of the track seems to throw horses back towards the rail.
Otaki is not necessarily the same.
If she gets a decent crack at them, there is no question We Can Say It Now is the horse to beat. After Riccarton, Mark Du Plessis has lost the ride on the filly to Leith Innes.
Newcomer St Beune is the second favourite with the TAB at $6.50.
He has drawn what seems an awkward spot at No 14, but will start from No 10 if only the emergencies come out.
He has not raced against the class of the opposition most of the field has, but has plenty of potential.
Market: $3.50 We Can Say It Now, $6.50 St Beune, $7.50 Jimmy Choux, $8 Cellarmaster, $10 Queen Of Pop, $18 Keenly, $21 Blinding, Lady Kipling, Galaxy Star, Six Schillings, Charma; $26 Pooka's Sister, $31 Fiddler.
