Leith Innes has a word of warning over Deebee Belle in tomorrow's $100,000 Grosvenor Championship Stakes - take no notice of her beaten run at Te Rapa last start.
"It was a lot better effort than it looks on paper," said Innes.
Yesterday the Matamata jockey said 800m out he was confident of getting some of the major money in the Sir Tristram Fillies' Classic at Te Rapa last start, then things suddenly went horribly wrong.
"She went from being nicely placed to challenge to being carted off the track on the home bend," said Innes.
"She clipped heels and nearly fell and I thought she did well to finish as close as she did.
"I actually had a look at the race video thinking about protesting, but the incident did not show up that well."
Deebee Belle was good enough to split Danamite and Sir Clive in the Avondale Guineas in December.
At her next start she finished sixth in the Derby.
The Grosvenor has thrown up a very even line-up for the last of the fillies' series.
One Thousand Guineas winner Elevenses did not let herself down finishing fifth in the Oaks last start. She has had a chance to freshen and worth remembering is that she came from a long way back to finish second to La Bella Dama at Ellerslie on January 2.
Ma Victoire will be improved for her Avondale run last start, after missing work when she injured her back being badly checked in the Oaks at Trentham.
This is likely to be a staying test which will suit Ma Victoire.
Gordon's, Mestre and, if there was some unexpected easing of the conditions, La Bella Dama all have claims.
