Jumps racing in Victoria has been marred by the first death of a horse since the sport resumed last month.
Whatsourgo was injured when he fell at the last fence during the Ted Best Hurdle at Moonee Valley yesterday and was put down.
It was the first fatality in jumps racing since Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) gave approval for the sport to continue, with some changes.
The sport was reviewed after the deaths of five horses in the first 10 weeks of the 2009 season, prompting protests from animal rights groups who demanded a ban.
